Environment

Environmental matters have become of great importance in recent years. We have developed a policy to guide the council in making decisions and taking actions that may have environmental impact.

There are also important plans at Buckinghamshire County level that acknowledge the importance of robust action on the environment and climate change. Where possible we will use the insights and resources available to inform and support our Taplow focused initiatives.

Taplow Parish Council initiatives

Taplow is blessed with a beautiful environment that we wish to preserve and enhance. Within the TPC 5-Pillars policy, we have been focusing of reducing our own carbon footprint and looking at ways to increase the biodiversity in the Parish.

Reducing Carbon Emissions (Eco Audit & Actions)

Taplow Parish Council is committed to reducing the carbon footprint of activities and infrastructure under its control, including the Village Hall, the Village Green, the Village Green Barn, Old Priory Gardens, and parish streetlights.

We commissioned an eco-audit in 2023 and implemented recommendations that have reduced the Council’s own Carbon Footprint by over 50%. Initiatives included replacing the old gas heating system to a net-zero system on a green tariff, a switch-over to LED lighting in the streets and facilities, greater energy efficiency & usage, and reduced wastage.

                                       Increasing Biodiversity & the environment

Our aim is to address the general decline of biodiversity by looking for opportunities in Taplow to preserve and, where possible, enhance our local environment.

An example of this is a project underway for Old Priory Gardens where we are currently exploring ways to restore this ancient woodland, its natural wildlife, important habitats and eco-system, and so increase its biodiversity making it a valuable and enjoyable community space.

                                                   Footpaths and bridleways

In order to Champion better facilities to encourage walking and cycling, as well as better management of our environment, we are involving the community to survey the routes of footpaths and bridleways around Taplow ensure they are defined, well maintained and accessible to all.

Protect the environment through Scrutiny of Planning Applications

Taplow Parish Council are using the planning process to minimise the environmental impact of any new developments. Applications are regularly scrutinised to ensure compliance to environmental standards, promoting more sustainable options, and to protect the green belt.
